Recently, Li Auto announced more news about its first pure electric MPV model, MEGA. Officials stated that the Li MEGA wind drag coefficient was 0.215 Cd after passing the aerodynamic wind tunnel test of China Automotive Research and Development Corporation, making it the model with the lowest wind drag coefficient among mass-produced MPVs. In addition, the new car is 5.35 meters long, has a wheelbase of 3.3 meters, is equipped with a dual-motor four-wheel drive system, and is equipped with a 102.7 kWh battery pack, with a pure electric range of over 700km under CLTC conditions.

According to the official plan, Li MEGA will be available for pre-order at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which will open on November 17 and be released in December, launched in January next year, and delivered in February.

The length, width and height of the new car are 5350x1965x1850 mm, and the wheelbase is 3300 mm. It is still quite large, slightly larger than the Alfa, but the body height is lower. In terms of appearance, compared with traditional MPV models, the difference is relatively significant. The through-type LED light strip is also a prominent feature of the Li model. In addition, the front face is expected to be equipped with six radar sensors and a panoramic camera, plus a lidar above the windshield, which will support high-end intelligent driving assistance.

Side of the car body

The side of the car body has smooth lines and a bullet-style shape like a high-speed rail. The official describes it as a “high-speed rail”. The most significant advantage of this kind of styling design is to improve the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle while also adding a high-end, fashionable atmosphere to the car and enhancing its recognition.

The handles of the front and second-row side sliding doors are all hidden, and the side sliding rails are also hidden, maintaining the overall sense of the side and further optimizing wind resistance. In addition, the new car also adopts a short front overhang and long rear overhang design, which not only ensures an elegant body posture but also provides a richer seating space for the rear row.

The tire specification is 245/60 R18, consistent with mainstream MPVs, and is equipped with low wind resistance wheels.

In terms of space, the Li MEGA adopts a 2+2+3 layout. The middle aisle space of the second row is 160mm, which has class-leading space performance. The trunk of the new car has a depth of 680 mm and a volume of 1066 L when it is equipped with seven seats. The three rows of seats have an electric folding function, and the depth of the trunk is 1066 mm after folding. At the same time, the new car adopts an “L-shaped” tailgate, which not only increases the height of the tailgate when it is opened but also increases the size of the trunk opening, making it more convenient to access items.

In terms of power, the new car is equipped with dual motors with a total power of 400 kW, and the official acceleration time from 100 kilometers to 100 kilometers is 5.5 seconds. In terms of battery, it is equipped with CATL’s ternary lithium battery with a battery capacity of 102.7 kWh and supports fast charging with a maximum power of 520 kW. The advantage of a low drag coefficient is mainly reflected in energy consumption control.

Every time the drag coefficient is reduced by 0.01Cd, the CLTC pure electric cruising range is increased by 7 kilometers (under the same conditions). Equipped with the Li MEGA of the dual-motor four-wheel drive series, the comprehensive power consumption under CLTC operating conditions is Only 15.9kWh/100km. For comparison, the energy consumption of ZEEKR 009 is 18.3kWh/100km, and the energy consumption of Denza D9 is 18.4kWh/100km.
